After being eliminated in the women's singles quarterfinals by Tsvetana Pironkova on Tuesday Venus Williams' last chance of scoring a Grand Slam Title at Wimbledon this year was destroyed when she also lost in the women's doubles quarterfinals with her sister, Serena, to Russians Elena Vesnina and Vera Zvonareva on Wednesday (3-6, 6-3, 6-4).
Apparently Venus had not recovered from her devastating loss to unseeded Pironkova yet as she was clearly still off her game. As a result the sisters missed four break points in the second set. To make matters worse Venus then lost her serve in the sixth game.
#1 seeded Serena was not able to pull her sister out of her funk which hopefully did not rub off on her as she will face unseeded Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic in the women's singles semifinals on Thursday.
In the other women's singles semifinal on Thursday #21 seeded Vera Zvonareva from Russia will try to get past Pironkova from Bulgaria. If Pironkova can repeat her impressive performance from Tuesday she might end up having to deal with the Williams sisters' wrath in the final.
