William Shatner calls J.J. Abrams a 'pig' over blockbuster film franchises

William Shatner, 81, called J.J. Abrams "pig" for accepting the directing duties of the huge money making film franchise "Star Wars." E! reported that Shatner stated on Wednesday, Feb. 13 that the former "Star Trek" star believes that Abrams has "gone too far."

"He's being a pig," the original Captain James T. Kirk told Movie Fanatic. "He's collecting the two franchises and holding them close to his vest. He's probably the most talented director of that ilk that we have."

Shatner added, "I think of him as a buddy of mine. I've taken him out for sushi. I think it's time for J.J. and I to have another sushi and let me put him straight about two of the largest franchises—and not employing me in either one of them is just foolhardy."

William Shatner's other well known roles include also played the eponymous veteran police sergeant in "T. J. Hooker" from 1982 to 1986, "Rescue 911." He has also worked as a musician, author, producer, director and celebrity pitchman. From 2004 to 2008, he starred as attorney Denny Crane in the television dramas "The Practice" and its spin-off "Boston Legal", for which he won two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.

In September 2012, portrayed the home plate umpire in the music video "At Fenway," which was written and recorded by crooner Brian Evans.

The video is set to be released in April 2013 and is currently being promoted as a movie preview in AMC Theaters nationwide.

The new, "Star Trek: Into Darkness" film minus William Shatner, will open in theaters on May 17.
