Will you be my Valentine?

Valentine’s Day falls on Tuesday, February 14, 2012.  There are roughly five weeks to plan something for your sweetie.  Valentine’s Day has become one of the largest holidays for couples to celebrate their love.  In addition, Valentine’s Day also serves as the second largest card sending holiday.

Legend has it that Valentine’s Day originated in Rome with Saint Valentine.  At the time St. Valentine was a priest who went against Emperor Claudius II decision to outlaw marriage, stating that “single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families.” During this time St. Valentine continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.   Once Claudius discovered St. Valentine never ceased performing marriages, he ordered that Valentine be put to death.  St. Valentine believed in love and marriage and felt that every man should experience this type of union.

How will you chose to celebrate Valentine’s Day?

There are tons of great ideas to express your love on Valentine’s Day.  Following are some creative ways to celebrate with your sweetie.

  • Plan a romantic dinner at home
  • Couples Massages
  • A dinner party with select friends
  • A quick getaway to a local 5 star hotel, with room service
  • Start giving small gifts to your sweetie each day leading up to Valentine’s Day
  • Go to a restaurant that has a live band, this adds an extra hint of romance
  • Do something that your sweetie loves to do (ex. Dance lessons, going to the ballet, etc.)

Remember this - every year doesn’t have to be a huge celebration.  Your sweetie may be comfortable with a quiet night at home while being shown some extra appreciation on this day.  The lesson to be learned on Valentine’s Day, is to always take the time to show your sweetie you love and appreciate them each day.
