According to Bioware "the next Mass Effect game is already in development." So in other words, there is a very high chance that another Mass Effect will be released sometime in the next few years.
Bioware is shifting their Mass Effect team to Montreal Canada and they’re using a new game engine in the next game. This new engine is the “Frostbite” engine which is similar to the one used in Dragon Age III.
Currently the game is in a sort of pre-production phase in that they’re still shifting around ideas and making conclusions on where to go next. From the sounds of it, they’ve already decided the general idea of where they’re going next, they’re just working out the major kinks of the next storyboard.
One thing that can be confirmed for sure is that there will be no Commander Shepard in the next Mass Effect. It’s unknown whether the story will continue where it left off with someone else, whether it will be a recap on a previous event such as the Krogan Rebellions, or whether it will be some new unrelated story that has nothing to do with the previous Mass Effect games.
The only things that can really be said for certain are that there will likely be another Mass Effect game, and that it will probably be a another major success. Knowing Bioware and its previous Mass Effects, it’s extremely likely that Mass Effect 4, will be another hit in the video game industry.
