Before thinking a relationship is going to last, you must have your life goals in mind. It is best to find out if you two have similar life goals with in the first few dates. Finding out if you two are 100 percent compatible before getting too serious will save on a lot of tears and heartache. When you two are getting to know one another, have these things in mind:
- Where do they see themselves in 5 years? This may sound like a job interview question but think of it more as a relationship interview question. It is better to know if you two are in the same place.
- Do they ever want to get married?
- Where do they want to live?
- Do they want kids?
- What are their career goals?
It is true that to find true love you mustn't be picky. But to make the relationship work, you must think about what you want. Once you are in a serious relationship it's all about them, not you anymore. If you don't cover these five questions early on, it could leave to big heartbreaking surprises as your relationship progresses. Imagine if you really want kids with in the next 5 years but you don't ask them where they see themselves in 5 years. You two may start a very serious relationship but how would you feel if you found out they don't even want kids? You will then be torn to choose between them and yourself. Could you live your life with no kids?
Another example is if you really want to move but you don't find out how they feel about leaving the area. If you don't settle that early on, it will cause a road block for your relationship. Imagine if you two got married before discussing this then found out you two have completely different places in mind to live. Find out early in the relationship what goals you two have in common and what goals you may be willing to compromise on.
If the two of you are able to compromise with one another's goals or if you have similar goals then you are golden. There are many who don't have any goals in common and don't find out until later on. This will cause fighting and resentment if it is not resolved. It is almost always better to resolve these things early on before the relationship becomes too serious.
