Shailene Woodley is having a moment. She’s one of Hollywood’s It Girls, with her latest film, "The Fault in Our Stars," opening at number one, according to a Sunday report from US Today. Her star has only risen after “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” ended last year.
Jennifer Aniston’s career also blossomed after “Friends” ended. Could Woodley be the next Aniston? Let's see how the two compare.
Both were part of ensemble casts, but really shined. Of course, “Secret Life” didn’t have the viewership or longevity “Friends” saw, but it did earn a cult following on ABC Family. Both shows featured an ensemble cast of characters, but Rachel and Amy are the two that really stood out on both shows for most people.
The public’s obsession with their hair is another similarity. We are fascinated with Woodley’s hair. There has not only been videos released of her having her hair cut, but of her watching the video of her being cut as well. Aniston’s 90s haircut made pop culture icon status. Women flocked to salons requested “the Rachel.” Jennifer’s hair is still featured in celebrity gossip magazines on a regular basis.
Aniston started racking up movie parts after “Friends” ended. She became a romantic comedy fixture. Woodley received a Gold Globe nomination for “The Descendants,” a 2011 film starring George Clooney, however her movie career has exploded even more since “Secret Life” ended.
Shailene scored the lead in two hugely popular YA book to movie adaptations. She is playing Tris in the “Divergent” series of films. She is also Hazel Grace in “The Fault in Our Stars.” In addition, she’s also in “White Bird in a Blizzard” and “The Spectacular Now.”
We can’t get enough of Shailene and Jennifer. It’s been ten years since a new episode of “Friends” aired. “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” only ended a year ago. We’ll have to wait and see if Shailene Woodley has the same staying power as Jennifer Anniston.
What do you think? Did you love Woodley in “The Fault in Our Stars” and “Divergent”?
