The Grammy Awards are fast approaching and classic rock stars are few and far between within the nominees of 2013. They include Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Megadeth and Bruce Springsteen. The first three are all up for the same award being Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance as where Springsteen is up for three separate awards. These include Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. Both of those nominations are for ‘We Take Care of Our Own’ off of his latest album ‘Wrecking Ball’ which is also up for Best Rock Album. The album is a wonderful piece of art as was the extensive world tour supporting it.
The competition is stiff for Springsteen since he is up against The Black Keys who have been nominated for nearly every award that they are eligible for this year. Springsteen has received many Grammy Awards throughout the years and most definitely is a veteran whereas the Black Keys have only been in the Grammy game for the last few years. They have received awards and been nominated numerous times thus far so the question is ‘Will a classic rock musician prevail in any of the categories?’ Springsteen has never stopped pleasing his followers either with or without his E Street Band. With this latest album being so political in an election year and touring heavily for the first time without late Saxophonist Clarence Clemons, he unquestionably deserves to be recognized for his impressive status as a Working Class Hero in the American music industry. The Black Keys undeniably deserve recognition as well but for different reasons. Their music is exceptional but on an entirely dissimilar level. To pull for one or the other is a tough decision but must be decided in each of the three categories that they are facing each other.
America will see the results in just a couple of days and see if classic rock artists can still hold a flame in this ever-changing world of music. Classic rock and roll music has influenced many of this year's nominees and here’s to hoping that everyone who cast a vote this year remembers that. The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will be held live, in Los Angeles, February 10, 2013 at 8/7c on CBS. Here is a link to the complete list of nominees.
