Will Smith mourns the loss of ‘Fresh Prince’ co-star James Avery

Actor Will Smith is fondly remembering his late co-star James Avery who passed on New Year’s eve at the age of 68. Smith who starred as the nephew of Avery’s character Uncle Phil in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” took to his Facebook page this past weekend to express his condolences about the film and television star.

“Some of my greatest lessons in Acting, Living and being a respectable human being came through James Avery. Every young man needs an Uncle Phil.“

Smith also shared a picture of the both of them with other members of the “Fresh Prince” cast. The series which ran in the early ‘90s starred Smith as a wayward teen from Philadelphia who’s sent to live with his extended family in Bel-Air. In a touching episode Avery’s character Uncle Phil consoles his nephew after his father played by the legendary Ben Vereen (“Roots”) disappoints him yet again.

Avery was a classically trained actor whose credits included the movies “Dancing in September” and “Fletch”. He also starred in the television series “Sparks” and made numerious guest apperances on other television shows.
