In the footsteps of “Titanic,” an epic love story is on the horizon. “Pompeii” is a true love story in the midst of one of the greatest disaster stories in history.
Director Paul W.S. Anderson (“Resident Evil,” “Death Race,” “Alien vs. Predator”), is at the head of the historical action film.
The large budget film will be scripted by Lee Batchler and Janet Scot Batchler (Batman Forever). Sources claim shooting of the film began in the spring of 2012.
Set in the late summer 79 A.D., “Pompeii” follows the life of a slave, owned by a shipping tycoon. He dreams of his freedom to be able to marry his master’s daughter. He isn’t aware that she has already been promised to a Roman senator and that he has been sold to a different owner.
Just as things are at their worst, Mt. Vesuvius explodes with the power of 40 nuclear bombs. The slave is trapped on the ship that is traveling to Naples, separated from his master’s daughter, the one he loves. His best friend is a gladiator and he is trapped in the coliseum. Fire and ash destroy the world he knows but he is not going to let that stop him. He will return and rescue them.
Back to reality – when Mt. Vesuvius did erupt, thousands of people died that day. Many had been covered in the volcanic ash, leaving their form in deposits around the city. While excavating, it was found that by filling the cavities with plaster, detailed human casts appeared, revealing the look of terror on many faces. The area is now one of the most well known tourist attractions.
So far, the only known actors cast are Kit Harrington as Milo and Emily Browning will also take on a role.
The release of “Pompeii” will be in 2014. The exact date of release is yet to be announced.
