Occupy Wall St versus The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade next Thursday is a subject stirring in the media today. For Occupy Wall Street protestors coming out in numbers and protesting at one of the biggest Thanksgiving parades, which is also nationally televised, would give them more bang for their buck.
According to The Moderate Voice, Sean Hannity said on his radio show last night that “One goal of Occupy Wall Street protesters was to destroy Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and ruin it for families.” Would they really do this?
While Hannity’s remark sounded as if there’s a bit of sarcasm mixed in, the protestors are already looking ahead to the future to another parade planned out for a protest. The Macy’s Parade is next week in New York and they’re planning to be seen during this parade, but the OWS already announced that the Rose Parade in Pasadena California is their New Year’s target for a protest.
According to Reuters their plans are to put up encampments along the Rose Parade route and join in on the parade with a human float. This nationally televised parade is one, much like the Macy’s Parade, that makes up childhood memories for kids. Is this really a place the OWS want to intrude?
Hannity’s radio show forum comments are not supporting a protest at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade; some are even saying that they’re not comfortable bringing their kids for fear of an unruly protest.
Will Occupy Wall Street ruin the Thanksgiving tradition that New Yorkers and the rest of the country enjoy on Thanksgiving morning? This parade should be left alone and remain family entertainment.
