Will Magid and his trumpet are putting on a worldwide dance party at Café Du Nord on January 28. At twenty-six, this San Francisco Bay Native has performed on five continents and has had the honor to share the bandstand with many talented artists. Among them, Pangea Collective, Soji Odukogbe (Fela Kuti), Baba Ken Okulolo (Fela Kuti), Kenny Burrell, Mutaytor, CocoRosie, Afrofunk Experience, Bushwalla, Vibrometers and many others.

At the age of eighteen, while getting his degree in Ethnomusicology at UCLA, Will was the youngest person ever to be in the legendary Solomon Burke's band. Will is magnetic performer, a rarely gifted multi-instrumentalist, who is most often seen these days on the bandstand, playing trumpet, singing and dancing with such acts as J Boogie and Afrolicious.

Will has recently taken the leap to step out front under his own name with his newly formed Will Magid Trio. Will is also in the final mixing stage of his debut album, "Midnight High," forthcoming in February 2012. In addition to playing trumpet and singing, Will plays a number of other instruments, is a fabulous songwriter, and a talented producer. He is also an up-and-coming DJ, who can rock a dance floor with his fine tuned selection and skills.

Will brings global perspective to his music. He is forging a unique musical path for himself, and uses a diverse palette of sounds. You will hear traditional Latin and African percussion instruments and rhythms, African Thumb Piano, French Electro Beats, Ambient Noise, Balkan Horns, Classical Strings, and much more. Of course, big in the mix we will hear the clarion, luminescent call of his trumpet, and his distinctive vocals. On the record, Will plays many of the parts, but is also joined by a diverse and extraordinary supporting cast of gifted musicians.

Will Magid Trio is comprised of Kevin Wong on Keys and Paul Oliphant on Drums, and, of course, Will Magid on Trumpet, Vocals, and Samplers. To bring his musical vision to the stage as a trio, Will employs his skills as a Producer and a DJ, reaches into his bag of tricks to pull out a dazzling array of loops, beats and samples, which he seamlessly integrates with the live instruments.

In addition to the new trio, and the upcoming record, Will is going to be promoting a regular special event, Will Magid's World Wide Dance Party! (WMWWDP!) For the debut WMWWDP!, Will is bringing together a stupendous sampling of the talented global musical community he is a part of. For the Fela Kuti Extravaganza, which will be the finale of the night, Will is working with longtime collaborators of his, Baba Ken Okulolo and Soji Odukogbe, both were members of Fela's band.

This event is sponsored by Amnesty International USA. AI USA will be present at this party to raise awareness about human rights violations in the Niger Delta. People living in oil producing areas of the Niger Delta have seen their human rights undermined by oil companies that the Nigerian government has failed to hold to account. The oil extraction industry is responsible for widespread pollution of the Niger Delta environment.

Oil spills, waste dumping and gas flaring are endemic. Pollution has damaged crucial sources of livelihood, including farming and fisheries, pushing many people deeper into poverty. There is an urgent need for a comprehensive clean-up of polluted areas of the Niger Delta, and for effective remedies for affected individuals and communities. The Nigerian government must strengthen regulation of the oil extraction industry to ensure that companies are held accountable for the impacts of oil pollution on human rights and the environment, and to prevent further abuses.
