No doubt the question on everyone’s lips, once the shock of the news of the tragic death of the 2-year-old subsides, is … “Will Joseph Robert Patterson be facing additional charges?”
This comes after Joseph Robert Patterson was arrested, on October 9, 2013 for aggravated assault and battery of an infant after police and EMS were called to a home and found a 2-year-old child unconscious from injuries identified as non-accidental. The child was transported to a nearby hospital wherein he later succumbed to his injuries.
The 2-year-old child just happens to be the son of NFL Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.
MyMeApparel Atlanta Fashion and Entertainment Examiner spoke with Sioux County Police Department Officer Van Dyke, on October 11, 2013 at 7:14pm, regarding the possibility of additional charges being made towards Joseph Robert Patterson. Officer Van Dyke informed this examiner that Lincoln County State’s Attorney office issued a press release, at approximately 4:00pm, following the child’s death on October 11, 2013, indicating that a review of reports will take place to determine if additional charges would be filed.
Officer Van Dyke provided that Lincoln County States Attorney office will be handling all inquires and filing of charges as it relates to this case.
MyMeApparel Atlanta Fashion and Entertainment Examiner contacted the Lincoln County State’s Attorney office, on October 11, 2013 at 7:17pm . This examiner spoke with Lincoln County State’s Attorney Tom Wollman, who provided that additional charges may be forthcoming pending review of police report, medical report and autopsy. State’s Attorney Wollman stated that the process may take until next week to obtain and review all of the information and make the decision on whether additional charges may be filed for Joseph Robert Patterson.
It is said that the initial charges of aggravated assault and battery of an infant alone could garner Patterson up to 40 years behind bars. He currently has a bail set at $750,000.
It would not be surprising to discover family members and friends who would want ‘murder’ specifically to be added to Patterson’s charges.
In fairness to Joseph Robert Patterson, individuals arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Just because someone places a 911 call and is the only one in the home at the time that the police and EMS arrive, does not (legally) make him/her guilty of a crime.
This examiner sends prayer and condolences to the Peterson family regarding their loss.
MyMeApparel Fashion and Entertainment Examiner will continue to provide updates as they become available.
