According to a March 15 report from MMA Junkie, Georges St-Pierre is confident he'll pull out a victory over Nick Diaz at UFC 158.
Besides a loaded arsenal of takedown defense, crisp striking and excellent wrestling, St-Pierre says part of his strategy includes playing mind games with his opponent.
"I play a bit of a mind game, but I never talk about it because it's one of my tricks," St-Pierre says. "Now that you said it, I'm sure other people will hear it and ask me questions about it. Unfortunately, I won't be able to answer. It's part of my strategy."
St-Pierre seems very confident heading into his UFC 158 bout against Nick Diaz, but there's one secret weapon that may serve as his kryptonite -- beautiful celebrity babes sitting ringside.
If St-Pierre has one major weakness, it's his inability to remain focused during fights, when he spots a gorgeous celebrity babe in the crowd.
St-Pierre has stated in the past that he gets distracted by women beautiful women sitting ringside during fights, and there's no question that the stars will be out in full force at UFC 158.
In a recent interview with MMA Fighting reporter Ariel Helwani, St-Pierre said he forgot he was in a UFC fight against B.J. Penn, because he was busy staring at Cindy Crawford. Will the same scenario unfold during UFC 158? Time will tell.
"It was against B.J. Penn, I believe," St-Pierre said of the incident. "I was bloody, it was the first round. I think the second round I was against the fence and in a clinch with B.J. Penn and I looked (out into the crowd) and it's Cindy Crawford. I said to myself 'Wow, she is so beautiful.' And then I'm looking right besides her and her husband is looking at me and I'm like 'Oh my god I'm not going to look at her, her husband is watching me.' And then I'm thinking 'of course he's watching me, I'm doing the show right now. Okay go back to the fight.' It was crazy."
St-Pierre was a much younger man at that point in his career. He could afford to take his eyes off an opponent for a couple seconds, but he may be a step slower now than he was six years ago.
He'll need to maintain an intense focus on Nick Diaz at all times, if he hopes to successfully defend his belt.
St-Pierre's secret weapon may be mind games, but Diaz's secret weapon might be celebrity babes sitting ringside. Perhaps Diaz should invite Cindy Crawford to UFC 158, in hopes St-Pierre will once again be distracted by her beauty.
