The great recession is changing everything and people want to know if gasoline will be illegal. The high prices of fuel have turned the economic world upside down and made a huge mess. It looks bad now, but at the end of the tunnel things look profitable. Reduced material and energy consumption results in less cost to create and produce. These changes increase profits marginally when looking at long term models. This is good for industry, but what about the people?
As you can see, there is ample amount of energy from other sources. As long as people are accepting of these other energy sources, gasoline should not become illegal. It is possible that if the majority of consumers switch to alternative energy that gasoline may become hard to find due to popular demand being in favor of other types of energy. If this happens, gasoline will become very cheap and have no reason to become illegal.
Will gasoline be illegal? Probably not.
The green efforts being put forth as a result of high priced fuel are changing markets over night. Several new technologies that reduce ecological consumptions are in return making the automotive industry more profitable after transition. This type of eco-friendly thinking is going to make it more profitable for down line automotive industry as well. Ease of production once properly tooled will increase profits for any sub related field to the automotive industry. This influences the "powers that be" to produce more eco-friendly vehicles which the public is now demanding. It hasn't always been this way. This is evidence of general public acceptance of using alternative energy.
Until gasoline reached $5.00 per gallon, people didn't want anything to do with small economic vehicles. Now that we've been burned by the high price of gasoline, the majority of people want to switch to more fuel efficient vehicles faster than ever. The only issue holding them back is the price and availability of more efficient vehicles. As long as people want to convert, gasoline should not become illegal. In order for people to convert, the price and availability must change in favor of mass transition.
Gasoline logically should not become illegal as long as the majority of people want to switch from gasoline to alternative energy. When the majority is given a reasonable opportunity to switch, dramatic reduction in gasoline demand will take place resulting in extremely lower fuel prices. The price of gas will be a fraction of what it is today after complete electric and alternative vehicle market saturation. Under these conditions, gasoline should logically never become illegal because their will be no need to do so. The demand and consumption rates will have gone down enough to render gasoline cheap and plentiful which satisfies everyone's goals.
Gasoline would become illegal if the majority of people resisted to convert to alternative energy when given appropriate opportunity to do so. This is extremely unlikely to occur. Once the technology becomes affordable it is logical that majority of consumers will convert from gasoline to alternative energy. As long as the majority converts, the major goal of "green" can still be accomplished with out making radical prohibitions that cause increased transitional stress on the consumer. Prohibition of certain fuels will only make things worse and are very unlikely to occur.
Gasoline will always be available because when the mass transition to alternative energy has been completed the few people left still using gasoline will only create minimal demand. The demand will be enough to keep gasoline in small supplies, but it will not be an overwhelming demand like we have today that causes ridiculous inflation. As long as John Q Public accepts alternative energy, our friend gasoline will stick around and be much cheaper.
