Although it sounds like an April Fools prank, Will Ferrell has agreed to produce an EDM romantic film entitled, “I’m In Love With The DJ.” Lauryn Kahn, a sketch comedy writer who is often featured on projects from Funny or Die studios, wrote the film and was thrilled when Ferrell agreed to serve as one of the executive producers.
The new R-rated comedy will tell the story of a girl whose two best friends accompany her on a work trip to Spain. The trip becomes a hunt for an attractive DJ that is well known in the electronic dance music arena. Kahn spent four years perfecting her writing skills and learning about the industry as she worked for director Adam McKay. Sony production president boasted about Kahn’s writing talent stating that her characters were funny and full of life.
It can be hard to visualize a film that is inspired by electronic music but Ferrell seems to be setting the pace for something entertaining. Ferrell and Adam McKay have hired the same production team that created hilarious films like “Stepbrothers” and “Anchorman.” The film aims to capitalize on the recent explosion of EDM appreciation as the music continues to rule American airwaves.
Sony Pictures is being particularly quiet about the new film as specifics are still up in the air. Although Ferrell and his team have begun making arrangements, he has only signed a preemptive deal with Sony at this point. Lauryn Kahn also recently sold another screenplay for $1 million that will be released under the name “The Social Life.”
