Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports tweeted that sources have said the Buffalo Bills are not expected to tender an offer to wide receiver David Nelson. The tweet from Cole was posted on Friday evening, Feb. 22.
Jason Cole tweeted:
“Bills not expected to tender RFA WR David Nelson, who missed all but one game last season because of injury. Nelson expected to be healthy.”
Ryan Talbot, featured columnist for The Bleacher Report, reported that Nelson tweeted back:
“Wow. If this is true then I def do get all my info from twitter..RT: @jaconcoleyahoo: Bills not expected to tender RFA WR David Nelson.”
David Nelson’s 2012 season lasted only one game because Nelson tore a ligament in his right knee in the Buffalo Bills season opener against the New York Jets. Allegedly, the Buffalo Bills expect David Nelson to be healthy for training camp.
If Jason Cole’s “sources” are correct, Nelson would be the second wide receiver the Bills have decided not to tender. On Feb. 7, the Buffalo Bills announced that they would not tender wide receiver Donald Jones.
As the Buffalo Bills head into this weekend’s NFL Combine, the organization may be looking to replace one of their current wide receivers with a younger, less expensive one. Speculation is that the Buffalo Bills will play close attention to University of Tennessee’s Cordarrelle Patterson and Tennessee Tech’s Da’Rick Rogers.
David Nelson made national headlines in November 2011 when he was expected to propose but did not to then girlfriend Kelsi Reich, a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, during the Nov. 11 Buffalo Bills vs. Dallas Cowboys match up that day. Nelson did not propose to Reich. It is not known if the duo is still together, but Kelsi Reich’s Twitter page lists her as a “former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader” and “sideline reporter.
