Will Bret Michaels replace Simon Cowell on American Idol? (Photos)

June 1, 2010

Is Bret Michaels going to be the replacement for Simon Cowell on next year's American Idol?

LOS ANGELES, Ca. -- Simon Cowell, the now retired celebrity in American Idol suggested that Bret Michaels, frontman for Poison, would make a good choice as the next American Idol judge.

Will it happen?

The 47-year-old rock star had recently been in critical condition with a brain hemorrhage, and told People magazine, "I was honored that Simon said that, and I would be honored to do it," Michaels stated.

"I would bring my heart and my soul and amazingly honest and truthful advice. And I would tell them if I thought their chances of making it were really slim -- and how to fix that. Because my chances of making it were extremely slim. It's come from brute determination."

American Idol producers have not yet made Michaels an offer, though it's possible he is under consideration. And Michaels himself has not ruled the possibility out. On Friday, TMZ reported that Michaels was on stage in Biloxi, Mississippi where he mentioned the possibility again.

“I can’t say this is true yet, cause I don’t know. Next year they asked me to possibly be the judge on ‘American Idol.’”

The singing performed a sold-out 'comback' tour in Biloxi, Mississippi and told fans he was "lucky to be alive."

With regard to being an American Idol judge, Michaels said he would be bringing his 23 years of music-industry experience to the show.

"I'm talking old-school, paying-my-dues experience," says Michaels. "I used to move the pool table out of the way to play for people six nights a week, playing five sets a night, where I had to announce the dinner special. I grew up the old-fashioned way. I would have done anything to have a platform like 'American Idol' when I was growing up."

On last week's American Idol, Bret Michaels performed "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" with Casey James.

TMZ reports Fox has made no comment on the situation.

What do YOU think? Do you think Bret Michaels would make a good judge?

San Francisco resident, Annie Barnes says, "It will be interesting to see what happens. I think Michaels would make a good judge. Of course right now nobody thinks Simon Cowell can be replaced. It's funny how he went from being a judge everyone hated to one we didn't want to see leave."

I think he would be a great addition after seeing how he works on "Celebrity Apprentice." I DO hope that he is taking great care of himself though. No work is worth you life.
