IGN reported yesterday that Wildstorm Comics is canceling the Blizzard licensed comic books World of Warcraft, World of Warcraft: Horde and Starcraft to focus on of original graphic novels.
Hank Kanalz, VP & General Manager of WildStorm, in a statement given to IGN:
The larger format will give our artists and storytellers more room to explore Blizzard's rich, varied worlds and flesh out the characters that inhabit these places.
World of Warcraft line ended immediately with yesterday’s publication of with the World of Warcraft Special. Starcraft ends with #7 in January. World of Warcraft: Horde, which was expected to debut in January, has been cancelled outright.
WildStorm is an imprint of DC Comics, which just last week announced that it would be launching two new original graphic novel lines in 2010 to feature new interpretations of Superman and Batman.
No further details were available about the creative teams of or the publishing schedule of the new line of graphic novels or the fate of the complete but unpublished comic books, but more details can be expected in early 2010.
