At the recent Northern Palm Beaches Cultural Alliance Business After Hours, the author was introduced to the work of landscape painter Rick Lewis. Born in Panama, the artist spent his formative years in New Jersey where he attended Fairleigh Dickinson University majoring in marketing. Early in his career he was an Art Director and New Products Design Director for toy companies.
“I worked on creations from Slinky toys to water rockets. I had a graphics and product design business and during those years most of my fine art paintings were commissioned,” he states. “I lived in Woodstock, New York for most of my adult life and moved to Jupiter, Florida in 2007.”
Since then he has dedicated his time to painting, and as a member of the Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta, he has studied in the Center’s school and participated in juried art shows. His weekends have been very busy selling his work in Festivals up and down the coast. On November 20 – 21, he will be in the Art in the Gardens show in the Midtown Shops on PGA Blvd just a block west of Military Trail in Palm Beach Gardens. In January, February, and March he will be participating in six Festivals including Artigras, which will be in Jupiter’s Abacoa Town Center from February 19 through February 21.
My paintings have been shown in local galleries and as a result of my involvement in art shows, originals and limited editions Giclee prints hang in homes in Florida and throughout the country.” Most of his paintings are oil on canvas but more recently he has been working on acrylics using his palette knife instead of a brush. “My subjects of interest are wildlife, landscapes, and seascapes. I find the unusual in common places and try to incorporate color and contrast into my works. I believe that art is a continuous learning process. Anything I have observed and experienced in life contributes to what I put on canvas.”
He must have experienced much beauty because his work captures the splendor of our Florida environment. To see it visit one of his upcoming shows which you can check out on his website, and for now enjoy the slideshow.
