Wildflowers in Southern California

Wildflowers will be coming out full force in Southern California during the next few months due to strong winter rains. Beginning in March and lasting through June in some places, desserts and coastal areas alike will burst into bloom. This is an amazing time to strap on a backpack and head off on a camping trip. Desserts such as the Mojave and Joshua Tree look completely different when covered in blooming flowers. Destinations up the coast from the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to Big Sur appear fluorescent green.  To top it all off, seasonal streams typically flow at their peak in the Spring; the resulting waterfalls on some of these streams can be breathtakingly beautiful.
