Missy and John Villapudua began their journey of creating gourmet sauces with WildBerryaki, an all-natural, tasty, gluten-free teriyaki with a northwest twist of blackberries.

Then came SpicyBerryaki. As one would expect, this spicy version of their original teriyaki sauce was soon flying off the shelves too.

Their newest creation, WildeCurryaki, is a pineapple curry sauce infused with Hawaiian and Indian flavors, or like Missy and John like to say “with a touch of aloha and good karma.” WildeCurryaki is great as a sauce for fish, chicken, ribs, rice….anywhere where bold curry flavor enhances the recipe.

The original WildeBerryaki sauce was inspired by John's grandfather who owned a Japanese-Hawaiian restaurant in Los Angeles, however, John and Missy’s Pacific Northwest version includes blackberries. They love to tell people, “we decided to take life by the thorns and bottle it.”

This latest sauce was motivated by a visit to Pepeekeo, Hawaii, a tiny town where John’s grandparents first met. “We wanted our next sauce to be curry-based and were inspired by the pineapple fields of Hawaii,” John quipped.

John and Missy met at the University of California, Davis, and moved to Colorado a few years after they married. In 2004, they ran the Seattle Marathon and were instantly drawn to the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. While driving through a torrential downpour Missy recalled seeing an island on the map with a bridge and two ferries and said, “let’s check it out.” As they drove across Deception Pass Bridge, the rain stopped, the sun came out, and they knew Whidbey was going to be their new home.

In 2006, they bought a house, sight unseen, on 7-1/2 acres in Greenbank. When they made their first visit to the property, they instantly fell in love.

WildeBerryaki, SpicyBerryaki and WildeCurryaki are sold in many locations on Whidbey Island and beyond. If you do not see their sauces at your favorite store or restaurant, let the store managers or chefs know. John and Missy are more than happy to ship anywhere in the US and sincerely appreciate heartfelt recommendations.
