Wild, wild east comes to little ol' Rensselaer city

The City of Rensselaer's newest business is Wrangler's East Saloon. That's not a typo. The geographic designation is emphasized in the business logo that crosses out the word "west and inserts "east."

Although the establishment is awaiting a full liquor license, it is serving beers. Plus, owner Christmas Fish and manager Melanie Rosencrans's have an interesting menu featuring a signature burger of black angus short ribs as well as pizzas, seasonal stews and salads, chicken or beef kebabs, bacon bowls and the like.

But, what really caught my eye on the menu is the lengthy list of "dippers and sauces." It includes the likes of Viper Venom BBQ ("extremely hot, does not include snake spit"), Gold Rush Gravy, Swartz Strawberry Sauce, Dark Ale Mustard, Duck Sauce ("No ducks were harmed" etc.), Peach Whiskey BBQ and Wild East Ranch.

The saloon is located at 346 Columbia Turnpike (Routes 9 and 20), just east of the Hudson River near the East Greenbush town line. Phone: (518) 477-5263.
