Sunday’s second bout on Track 2 featured Western Region’s #14-ranked Emerald City versus #10 Pikes Peak. Emerald City entered having not lost a bout since last year’s Wild West Showdown. Pikes Peak was hoping to capitalize on their final chance to put up a win for the weekend. Emerald City literally jumped to a quick lead as Bullet Brains shot over the apex to get lead jammer and subsequently put up three points to Pikes Peak’s zero.

Kamilla Bloodspilla would help Pikes Peak come back to take an 11-7 lead after four jams. But, this would be Pikes’ only lead of the entire bout. Emerald City’s Rex Havoc, Ophelia Melons (who would struggle with penalties), Surly Q, and backward-skating Roller Toaster engaged in a pleasant Sunday afternoon’s target practice on Pikes’ jammers. Jammer Frankie Face Breaker, not wanting to be left out, would punish anyone, who thought they could slow her down, sending more than a few Pikes Peak blockers on hematoma-inducing trips to the floor.  Emerald City would enter halftime with a 58-37 cushion with Bullet scoring 34 of those points.

ECRG would start out the second half on a tear building a 95-41 lead after a 25-point power jam by Toaster with a little help from her blocker friends Rex, Autumn Atticweapon, and Frankie, who kept the pack firmly in place. But Pikes Peak would not roller over and play dead, they would outscore Emerald City 38 to 0 in the next eight jams behind Texass Tornado’s great blocking and Kamilla’s and Pepper Slay’s inexhaustible jamming. Kamilla and Pepper had more jams than Smuckers wearing the star on all but one of the 22 second-half jams.

But, a Pikes Peak victory was not in the cards as Bullet would score 37 of Emerald City’s final 55 points, including a 23-point power jam. And, Pikes Peak had a couple costly jammer calls, in which they had lead jammer, picked up their points, but in one did not call off the jam until Emerald City had collected an equal number of points and in the other they called it off before the Emerald City jammer had completed her initial pass, blowing the chance to score more unanswered points. In the end, Emerald City finished an undefeated weekend with a 152-129 victory.

Skaters on the Move:
The entire Emerald City squad. With four straight victories against teams ranked higher than them, Emerald City is the real deal. In May, they will face their greatest challenge at Battle for the Coast where they will take on B.A.D. Girls. And, there is talk of possibly taking on the Rose-Rat-Olympia gauntlet. I know I’d like to see that.

Skater who will ruin your life:
Emerald City’s president and blocking phenom Rex Havoc. Whenever she takes the track, she changes the tone of the game. When she’s playing, the weebles don’t just wobble, they also fall down. This bout was no exception. She gave the jammers their fair share of intimate track time.

It was over when…
Emerald City took a 144-102 lead with six minutes left after Bullet Brains picked up 9 points to Kamilla Bloodspilla’s zilch. In Emerald City’s two bouts over the weekend, they outscored their opponents 130 to 20 when Bullet was wearing the jammer star.
