The Wild (19-9-5) proved to be every bit the equal of the Chicago Blackhawks, who currently lead the Central Division, but were dominated in every facet of the game by the fourth worst team in the Eastern Conference.
The Blue Jackets (12-14-3) outshot the Wild in each of the three periods, including an 32-13 edge over the final 40 minutes of the game.
Cam Atkinson beat Niklas Backstrom with a fluttering wrist shot at the 1:17 mark of the second period to start the onslaught.
The Blue Jackets extended their lead with a power play goal by Nick Foligno four and a half minutes later.
The Blue Jackets kept the pressure on the Wild and extended their lead at the 4:38 mark of the third period with shot by Boone Jenner that cleanly beat Backstrom.
Foligno recorded his second point of the game with a behind the back pass to R.J. Umberger for an empty tap-in.
The Wild return to action against the San Jose Sharks Sunday at the Xcel Energy Center.
