Is a trip to Africa on your bucket list or do you want to return to this amazing continent? Wild Rainbow African Safaris, led by philanthropist and human rights activist Jody Cole, has lined up some African safari adventures that could just help you check that item on your list. The 2012 trips will include:

  • Lions, Rhino and Mara... oh my! -January 20– January 31 - 11 Days /10 Nights
Feed giraffe, visit rescued orphan elephants just outside Nairobi, tour Out of Africa author Karen Blixen’s farm, explore open savannah grasslands of the Maasai Steppe, game drives in the shadow of Mt. Kenya, and gourmet meals under the stars in the Samburu.
  • Zimbabwe/Zambia/Botswana Wild & Free 2012 - April 27 - May 7 - 11 Days / 10 Nights
Follow ancient migration trails in a wilderness where elephants and lions roam. Enjoy life on the Zambezi River surrounded by the sounds of hippo and the footsteps of leopard, then fly to the savannah plains to see herds of elephant.
  • Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb - July 3- July 15 - 13 Days /12 Nights ~ 9 Days on the Mountain (plus 5-day optional safari extension)
Route travels from the west across the Shira Plateau with an ascent to the base of the Lava Tower with 360-degree vistas from the crater and summit. After an overnight camp in the soft sand of the crater, make a sunrise climb to Uhuru Peak before descending toward the southeast and views of Mawenzi, Kilimanjaro’s remnant volcanic cone.
  • Tanzania Cool Casts Safari - September 3 - September 12 - 10 Days / 9 Nights
Visit the high ground of Tanzania in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro where you'll sip locally-grown coffees and chill with the locals, hang loose in the Tarangire with a shot amerulo overlooking herds of wild zebra and elephant, get down low in the Ngorongoro Crater, then race your souped up safari vehicle across the Serengeti Plains.
  • Tanzania "Call of Africa"  September 17- September 27 - 12 Days /11 Nights
See millions of wildebeest and zebra calving, the Maasai villages and the origin of mankind at Olduvai Gorge, or opt to visit to the roads less travelled in the remote southern regions with huge elephant populations and one of the few remaining wild dog populations in the world. This safari’s luxurious, private tented camps and private lodge are the most exclusive  – and comfortable – way to get close to the true essence of safari.

“If you’re going to go on an adventure like this,” Cole says, “I tell everyone to bring along with them an open mind and childlike curiosity. Something profound happens to almost everyone. I’ve seen people come back from Africa and make major life decisions. They see that life does not have to be the struggle we make it. It’s really much simpler. Africa brings that simplicity.”

Cole, an Alabama native and San Francisco transplant. is one of the first American women to become both a certified Field Guide and Trails Guide with Field Guides Association of Southern Africa.
