Just moments ago, Wild Mountain announced that it will open for the 2013-2014 snowboarding/skiing season today, at 3:00 p.m. This continues the area's tradition of being the first ski resort to open in the Midwest, if not (as was the case last year) first in the nation.
Only a small portion of Wild has snow, but it will be enough to whet the appetite of anyone interested in sliding on the snow, especially if freestyle activity is involved. Front Stage will be the covered in snow, with a rope tow and some rails and boxes. A ticket will set you back $15, but give you the chance to enjoy the snow until 8:00 p.m.
Wild plans to be open every day of the week from here on out, but vice president Amy R. Frischmon suggests that skiers and riders "pray for crisp, clear, and cold weather" for continued snowmaking. She adds, "There is something magical about snowmaking in October and a strip of white amongst the beautiful fall colors of the St Croix River Valley," and it's hard to dispute that.
Check Wild's website or Facebook presence for updates on hours, pricing, and snow coverage.
