Wild Mountain is the first ski area in the Twin Cities to announce pricing for passes for the 2013-2014 season. A season pass offers the snow-filled equivalent of a volume discount, so it can be an economical way to enjoy the winter.
An adult pass at Wild will set you back $235. Since a lift ticket costs $43, you'll be skiing or riding "free" after your sixth visit. What's not to like about that? As a bonus, the pass gives you discounts at other businesses, including some ski areas. If you don't have a pass for this season, here's an even better deal: Buy a next-season pass now and add on a pass for the rest of this season for $50.
Wild may be the first area to announce its push to sell passes for next season, but it won't be the last. Afton Alps has a teaser on its Facebook page, but there are no details yet. A few years ago, Welch Village made news with its $99 Olympic Pass. This year, the attention may go to Afton Alps. It was recently acquired by Vail Resorts, so expect some sort of discount for day tickets at Breckenridge, Heavenly, and other western resorts.
