Wild Man Blues: Woody Allen at the Schnitzer

Red-hot jazz hasn’t sounded this good since Jelly Roll Morton awoke and rocked the house of blues. Get ready Portland because wild man Woody Allen & his New Orleans Dixieland Jazz Band to rip up the Schnitzer concert hall stage on Saturday, December 27. Click here for details.

The world touring musical lineup will hail music director and co-conspirator Eddy Davis, the banjo player, Woody Allen on clarinet, Simon Wettenhall on trumpet,
Jerry Zigmont on trombone, Conal Fowkes on piano, Greg Cohen on string bass and John Gill keeping time on drums. Click here for video and click here for photo.

While Woody flies the skies to play his clarinet in Madrid, Venice and soon Portland, the local atmosphere heats up with its share of Portland Dixieland swing.

Flying under the musical radar are Mark Lindau’s Mudtown Stompers Dixieland Band, The Volcano Snow Vixens, Kit Kuni's Lazy River Jazz Band and classic rock n roll sounds of the Strange Tones.

If December 27 is already booked and you can’t make it to the Schnitzer to see Woody bob his head, stomp his foot and become appropriately animated for a clarinet player on stage, take this tip (it’s free), play a sizzling note and pencil in the Strange Tones holiday event "Crime-A-Billy Christmas" CD release and holiday party, December 21st (Wednesday), at Duff's Garage for some local PDX style red-hot rock n roll.
