“Wild Earth Child” is Jenna Greene’s second album. She has a clear, beautiful voice and is accompanied by her husband, Doug Greene, and others, on various instruments. Once she accompanies herself on harp. The songs she has written (all except one on the album are her own work) speak of the relationship between Goddess and faerie, reality and imagination, paganism and mythology.
“Wild Earth Child,” “explore[s] the broader world of myth, incorporating Celtic, African, Spanish, and Middle-Eastern influences.” (www.greeneladymusic.com/about) Ms. Greene writes that here she is “‘branching out’ of my beloved Celtic style,” which is so prominent in her first album. (www.kickstarter.com/projects/jennagreene/jenna-greene-wild-earth-child-a-new-cd-of-healing) Listeners will hear different cultural inspiration in different songs. One song that has obvious Middle Eastern influences, “Dance of the Goddess,” honors the Goddess by Her many names from different cultures.
“Samhain Night” is clearly inspired by the Celtic tradition. This syncopated, upbeat song is sung to a bodhran drumbeat and speaks of dancing “Where things are never as they seem.” It is a skilled blending of two important parts of the sabbat of Samhain (Halloween): the contact with “loved ones who have passed” and the joyous celebration of “harvest and the Celtic new year.” It is solemn without being haunting and melodic without being tedious. It makes the listener want to get up and dance along.
Reading her blogs (www.greeneladymusic.com/category/blog) and her Kickstarter information (www.kickstarter.com/projects/jennagreene/jenna-greene-wild-earth-child-a-new-cd-of-healing) makes it clear that Ms. Green has both depth and humor. She writes, “Affirmations are an important part of my spirituality. I believe we have the power to create our own reality. To me, this power within is the definition of magick and the heart of all mythology.”
“Wild Earth Child” is scheduled for release in January of 2012.
Ms. Green’s CDs are sold at all New England Pagan Pride Days, many Massachusetts stores (including The Robin’s Nest in Bellingham MA), and online at www.greeneladymusic.com/buy and www.greeneladymusic.com/music. She also performs frequently at PPDs and other pagan-friendly events.
Ms. Greene writes, “There is such great magic in music, in nature and in the human spirit and I get to combine those forces and explore those worlds. Creating that musical alchemy and sharing it with you is my greatest joy. I am so blessed to do what I do.” (www.greeneladymusic.com/category/blog)
