The Calgary Flames salvaged a point on Monday night, but lost 2-1 to the Minnesota Wild in a shootout at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The Wild got goals in the shootout from Mikko Koivu and Zach Parise en route to the victory. Niklas Backstrom made 23 saves as the Wild now improve to 6-5-1 on the season and are tied with the St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers for eighth place in the Western Conference.
With the loss, the Flames fall to 3-4-3 on the season and are three points back of a playoff spot.
The Flames had a solid performance from Leland Irving, who will be counted on more over the next while. On Tuesday, according to the Canadian Press, it was announced that Miikka Kiprusoff would be out two more weeks with a sprained medial collateral ligament. The sprain in the knee is apparently grade two in nature.
The Flames next host the Dallas Stars on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. According to Rogers Sportsnet, the Flames will be recognizing volunteers from the 1988 Olympic Winter Games in Calgary. On Wednesday is the 25th anniversary of the opening ceremonies of the 1988 Olympic Winter Games at Calgary's McMahon Stadium.
