Nintendo updated its network status page Saturday to reveal that online services for both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will be down several hours for what is being described as "emergency maintenance" in both North America and Europe.
The outage starts first with online play for Pokemon Black and White plus Black and White 2 going down at 11 a.m. PST on Monday, Jan. 28 and lasting until 5 p.m. PST the following day . It goes more widespread an hour later when the Wii U eShop, Nintendo 3DS eShop, Wii Shopping Channel and the Nintendo DSi Shop are all taken offline for five hours.
The reason behind the emergency maintenance has not been given by Nintendo but it must be pretty serious even if limited. Obviously, people can live without eShop access for a handful of hours but the no online play will hit owners of "Pokemon Black and White" and its sequel the hardest.
