Wife of Alec Baldwin being sued for alleged accident in yoga class

The New York Daily News reported on Feb. 16 that Hilaria Thomas, wife of actor Alec Baldwin, is being sued by a Manhattan resident for an injury he suffered during a class last month at Yoga Vida.

According to the papers filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court, Spencer Wolff, a 32-year-old Yale Ph.D. candidate, filmmaker and Huffington Post blogger (well, at least one blog post anyway) says he received injuries that are “serious” and “severe”. The allegations also indicate he suffered physically and emotionally when Thomas forced him “to perform a dangerous activity at a wall.”

Aren’t most yoga asanas performed on the floor? Why yes they are! In fact, if any asana cannot be performed, there is usually some modification provided to the yoga student until he/she is able to do the position as it is originally intended. Seasoned yoga instructors typically show their classes these modifications. Hilaria has been teaching yoga since 2005, and has a strong dance and fitness background.

No cause was actually given for Wolff’s injuries, but it is being blamed on the “overcrowded” Jan. 15 class and Thomas’ “negligence”. Those that practice yoga will clearly agree that something is definitely not right here. There are several questions that need to be answered, the least of which is why the plaintiff didn’t just leave when he started to feel uncomfortable with either the size of the class or the difficulty of the poses. Yoga participants come and go during Yoga classes all the time. Only time will tell the real reason for the lawsuit.

Hilaria Thomas and her husband Alec Baldwin are expecting their first child later this year. While she has yet to respond to the allegations, there has also not been any comment from Yoga Vida. However, Alec has taken to the Twitter airwaves to express his feelings on the matter.
