Widespread Panic is a powerful new red rare enchantment spoiled today Oct. 18, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming "Magic: The Gathering" product "Commander (2013 Edition)." Revealed in an update to the image gallery of DailyMTG.com, Widespread Panic can help you gain a massive amount of card advantage against players who use spells or abilities to shuffle their decks.
Widespread Panic - 2R
Whenever a spell or ability causes its controller to shuffle his or her library, that player puts a card from his or her hand on top of his or her library.
"How thin is the veneer of civilization! a modest measure of panic will wash it off completely."

Fetchlands. They're everywhere in eternal formats, and Widespread Panic forces players to lose a card in the shuffle. Many people run multiple fechlands in their decks, sometimes in excess of ten. Forcing your adversary to lose two, three, or four cards for just three mana is brutal, nevermind when you amplify Widespread Panic's impact amongst an entire group of players.
There's a plethora of other cards that requires everyone to shuffle their decks, and each time one of your opponents uses one they'll lose a card. Over the course of a long commander game it really isn't that unreasonable for Widespread Panic to make your enemies discard over ten cards between all of them.
Of course you don't need to wait for your enemy to shuffle their deck when you can do it for them. If you happen to know that one of your foes is playing a combo deck you can strip them of their combo piece with Slaughter Games or Surgical Extraction. If you're playing blue Bribery and Shape Anew are two cards you may want to consider. There's also the famous Soldier of Fortune who just happens to be red.
How will you use Widespread Panic?
