Wideout's career moves ahead in 'Ernest'

He may not have come out of nowhere, but he sure came on like gangbusters in 2011.

The 'he' is wideout Ernest Smith, a 6-3, 200-pound onetime Baylor Bear.

Smith re-signed with the Milwaukee Mustangs of the Arena Football League for the 2012 season, the club announced Thursday.

Smith's bustout performances at the tail end of last season helped solidify his position and shore up the receiving corps.

The Ernest One caught 67 passes for 771 yards and five touchdowns.

That made Brent Holmes expendable and allowed the 'stangs to survive injuries to future hall-of-famer Damian Harrell.

Smith became the favorite target of QB Gino (G-squared) Guidugli.

He went to training camp with the San Diego Chargers in 2010 and was signed as an undrafted free agent.

A 33-yard option touchdown pass his junior year at Baylor against Wake Forest made ESPN's Top 10 Plays list.

Season ticket and advertising promotion packages are on sale at www.MkeMustangs.com or call the team's office at 414-224-4000.
