According to the Canadian Press on Tuesday, women's hockey star Hayley Wickenheiser of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan won a gold medal at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi with a broken foot.

Wickenheiser commented on the injury when she entered the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on Tuesday with a walking boot on her left foot. Wickenheiser apparently had a broken foot for the last year and lived up to the sport ethic by playing through the pain.

Wickenheiser is now having to be in a walking boot for eight weeks. She is hoping that she will not need surgery.

At the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Wickenheiser had two goals and three assists for five points in five games. Wickenheiser also carried the flag for Canada in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games opening ceremonies.

Wickenheiser has now been on the Canadian team that has won a gold medal at the last four Olympic Winter Games and has not ruled out the possibility of representing Canada at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.
