Last night's episode of “Wicked Tuna” finds the fishermen of Gloucester, Mass. in peril as they try to catch their livelihood of bluefin tuna. So far, the leaderboard is as follows; FV-Tuna.com with four fish for $23,864. Second is Pin Wheel with three fish and $14,435. Third is Hard Merchandise with two fish for $11,896. Christina with two fish for $9,425. The Odysea finally on the board for one fish for $4,100.
As the episode starts, a shark attack is reported of a swimmer on the 911 emergency line of Truro beach. He received fifty stitches while swimming with his kid. One of the dangers of tuna fishing is hungry sharks are mistaken for tuna on the fishing lines.
On FV-Tuna.com, they are hoping to keep their lead and head off to go fishing. As the Bounty Hunter calls the Odysea, the captains discuss the shark situation. Bill Monte tells viewers that there is a large seal population which has attracted the sharks to Cape Cod because of the warmer waters, and the fishermen are in the middle of this food chain.
As the reel starts spinning, Bill hopes to have a big tuna on the line, but it is too small, so Scott pulls it aboard and by covering his eye, removes the hook and sends him off to grow up.
On the FV-Tuna.com, the radar is showing a fish in the area. As the reel starts spinning, the crew gets ready to hook a big one. It is a mako shark, and he gets away on his own.
On the Christina, they spot a shark headed right for their boat, and he is a monster and crashes into the boat. Kevin decides to head to away from the area because with a shark that big, the tunas are staying away too.
On the Hard Merchandise, Dave tells Jason about how a mako shark nearly jumped into the boat, and left three teeth on the rail. Soon, a reel starts spinning and something big is on the hook. It is a thresher shark, with a giant tail fin. As Dave tried to lasso the fish, he lunged and swung his tail fin and hit Dave right across his chest. As Dave writhed in pain, Jason cut the line, pissing Dave off, even more than the fish. The big red mark across Dave's chest is a reminder to the next thresher shark that comes on their line.
As the reel on the Bounty Hunter starts spinning, it is a tuna this time, Scott and Bill bring it aboard and are delighted. Back at the dock, the dressed fish weighs 155 pounds, and the fish is not fatty at all. It pays $5 a pound for $755 which is still better than nothing.
On the Hard Merchandise, Dave apologized to Jason for yelling at him for cutting the line on the thresher shark. He truly had his skipper in mind, and did not care about the shark at the time. Today, they are out for revenge on the next tuna that comes by. As the scanner gives them sighting of fish nearby, the reel starts spinning. It is another thresher, and this one is theirs. Dave says that thresher shark steaks are like veal cutlets. As they lasso his tail and bring him aboard, it is sweet revenge for Dave's sore chest. As the family sits down to a delicious dinner, they get to share a moment together with good food.
On the Christina, Kevin spots a big fish on the scanner, and as they chum, a reel starts spinning. The catch clock shows he is on the line over 33 minutes. The harpoon is on the mark, and the fish is theirs. He measures 74 inches, and they hope he is a fatty one.
On the Pin Wheel, the crew is making breakfast on the boat while they are awaiting their next catch. They are resting on deck when the reel starts spinning. It has been a long while since they caught anything because of the sharks. After twenty-two minutes, the wicked pissah is harpooned but the harpoon line gets wrapped in the propeller as the fish floats just below the surface. Tyler went into the water to cut the harpoon line, so they can bring him aboard; however, sharks can smell blood from miles away. Mission accomplished as Tyler cut the line, but now he has doubts about his crew, because nobody, but he would go under to cut the harpoon line.
The Christina's fish weighed 271 pounds, and paid $17 a pound for a total of $4,607.
Tyler's fish weighed 421 pounds and paid $18 for a total of $7,578.
At the end of week five, the leaderboard is; FV-Tuna.com with four fish for $23,867. Pin Wheel had four for $22,013. Christina had three for $14,032. Hard Merchandise had two for $11,896. Bounty Hunter caught two for $4,435. Odysea had one for $4,100 with more "Wicked Tuna" to be caught.
