Many of you may already watch this show, and the other half of you have probably heard of it. But for those who haven't, American Horror Story is a horror/drama show made in the USA. It first debuted in 2011 and is now in it's 3rd season which is titled American Horror Story: Coven. The show follows a different cast of characters each season, making each one it's own 12-13 episode long horror movie. Within the first season we followed a troubled family inside a devilish house. In the second season we followed reporter Lana, Bloody face, Grace and Kit among others as they navigated their way through and out of an insane asylum. Now for the third season we watch the lives of witches in modern day New Orleans. The cast includes and has included hit names such as Dylan Mcdermott, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters and for the third season even Kathy Bates. If that's not enough reason to tune into this show, then read on.
American Horror Story is more than just a horror show. Within each season nestled next to the horror and supernatural themes is a much deeper theme playing out, which is human complexity. In fact this may be the reason why the show is so very popular, for the first time in a long time, the characters are relate able no matter how strange it gets. It goes deep within the psyche of humans and pulls out something real, something raw and something covered in blood and beating. This show goes to prove that reality is stranger than fiction and that fiction is never far off from reality. Each episode has you clinging onto each word and hoping Wednesday comes quicker. Another reason everyone should watch this show, at least once, is due to it's amazing performers. Jessica Lange goes in full bitch mode and blows the story out of the water each time. The emotional range of these actors and actresses are mind bending. You laugh with them, you cry with them and you even die a little with them. Each one is an individual, as in real life. If you're not interested in the complexity and realness of humans, then the gore and horror part is enough for you. This show has taken horror to a new level with it's twists and turns. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, they turn you upside down again. As for the special effects, they're just as satisfying as everything else in the show. Even the theme song will have you turning your head and glaring at the screen. American Horror Story has managed to merge classic horror themes with human issues and life so perfectly that it seems as if the stuff in the show actually can happen. Nothing is off the table either, so if you're squeamish or sensitive then maybe this show isn't for you. If you can't handle a bit of gore and crude themes, then stick with the creator's other show, Glee. However if you want to experience something different than what is normally seen, then tune in.
American Horror Story is different than the other shows seen these days, and in a good way too. The show just cannot get boring and will keep you at the edge of your seat. It's raw and real, scary and sweet, funny and sad. It's everything all in one gruesome yet romantic show. In fact, many agree with that, the show has record breaking numbers of fans all across the globe. This show just must be watched, let me break it down for you.
1. It's real, the themes are odd yet the humans in the show bring such a stunning captivity.
2. It's funny, through all the gore you'll find some quirky laughs with it.
3. It's spooky, some of the show(s) can get a bit peeking-through-fingers.
4. It's romantic, for those who have watched it, tell me you haven't fallen in love with Tate and Violet's horrific love story?
5. It's interesting, if you like nothing else at all about this show, you must admit it's definitely interesting.
6. It's on Netflix, well season 1 is anyway.
There you have it, if you need more reason to watch an amazing show that even your great grandkids will hear about then I feel deeply sorry for you. However it's understandable if it's not your thing, but first give it a decent shot. Watch a few episodes, from any season really. Since the seasons can be watched in any order, give any old one a try. Basically AHS (as it's known) is a must watch show for anyone scanning the tube for something different. Of course you may want to get the kids out of the room first, as some scenes can get a bit graphic for the tikes. Go forth and turn your television into a portal to a realistically horrific world, and watch American Horror Story.
