Roses are red, violets are blue... The beginning of countless love poems. But giving flowers as a sign of love seems to be a lost art these days even in poetry.
For men, giving flowers used to be second nature - for Valentine's Day, for her birthday, or most commonly, after a bad fight. But through the years, more and more men began to give flowers only (or primarily) as a way to say "I'm sorry" after saying or doing something stupid or after a big fight. Women then became resistant to the idea of receiving flowers in general, even if there were good intentions behind it. This negative connotation led to many men giving up on giving flowers. But there is really no reason to stop. You should still giver her flowers. Just try it this V-day. Here are a few tips on how to give flowers successfully.
- Send them before Valentine's Day - Sending flowers on Valentine's Day may very well be "typical" and "cliche'" but sending them the day before or a few days before with a note that says "I just couldn't wait for February 14" will definitely be a winner. This element of surprise is bound to leave her speechless. PS - the same could be done the day after V-Day with a note that says "I just wanted to let you know I still love you".
- Send flowers to her mother - This one will score you points with her and her mom. Charlie Sheen Winning! The card should thank her for having and raising such a beautiful daughter inside and out. Believe it or not this is romance. This is a much less obvious way of being romantic, but it will touch her heart the same.
- Place a single red rose on her windshield wiper - This random act of kindness will be a unique gesture just to let her know you are thinking about her. It will be something nice to make her smile on her way to work.
- Send an Edible Arrangement - Flowers will look pretty on her desk, but an Edible Arrangement is pretty and a treat for her taste buds as well. You can never go wrong with chocolate covered strawberries (and other assorted fruits)!
Essentially, just find a way to brighten up her day and make her smile. And receiving flowers unexpectedly is the way to do it. Just stay away from carnations and babies breath. Carnations are so middle school valentine's-gram and babies breath is just a big no no! Don't let hearing women say flowers are cliche' or stereotypical get in the way of you being sweet and thoughtful. Send her some flowers and make it count. Send em to her job, send em to her house... just send em!
