Why women hate Sarah Palin

AP Photo by Chris Miller

Women do hate Sarah Palin and so many of them refused to vote for McCain because she was his choice for vice-president in 2008.

It was almost as if these women were back in high school and hated the popular girl who attracted all the guys, was a cheer leader, got good grades and was accepted to an Ivy Leagure College.

Palin had a few problems besides being pro-life, pro-gun and socially conservative.

Among them was

  1. Palin was too pretty.  Pretty women are always resented because they get a lot of admiring looks from males.  Women not as pretty and without great physical presence compare themselves to pretty women like Palin, who look so young and have so much energy even after having all those kids.
  2. Palin was too smart and had too much self esteem.  And to top it off, she had a great sense of humor. Remember that "lipstick on a pig" line?
  3. Palin wasn't classy enough.  They wanted the elegance of a Michelle Obama who looks comfortable in designer clothes while Sarah, until the Republicans started buying her clothing, looked like she got them off the rack in the knockdown mall store.

So the women did what they usually do--vote for the guy who sweet talks them and convinces them that there is something wrong with smart, pretty politcally successful women. It worked to defeat Hillary, didn't it?

It couldn't be that she didn't have a clue what the hell she was talking about, could it? Did you actually watch any interviews or debates? When it comes to politics, she's a dolt.

Honestly, do you think that if McCain/Palin had won and something happened to McCain while in office that Palin would be qualified to step up to the plate and take over as president?

Also, not just women voted for Obama. So to what do you attribute men's reluctance to vote for McCain/Palin?

It is disgusting that you denigrate women this way. For you to assume that women could only be motivated by pettiness really is a step back for women everywhere. And considering that you are a woman makes it all the worse.

  • Erin 3 years ago

"do you think... Palin would be qualified...?"
A resounding YES! Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Obama, Biden, Geithner, Emanuel, Reid, Pelosi.....
Before you automatically repeat what the media elite has told you about Sarah Palin, do some research. She has an excellent track record that cannot be disputed.

Very well said, Martha. You're right on!

I think you will find that Sarah Palin joked about pit bulls and lipstick, not pigs. You obviously paid about as much attention to her scripted speeches as you did to her laughable unscripted interviews. Most women voters are not as shallow as you seem to think; perhaps you need to look beyond your own superficial values when trying to understand the motivations of people with the nation's best interests at heart.

  • E Lena 3 years ago

When one of the reasons given is Sarah Palin was too smart, I can't take anything else said very seriously.

  • bigspoon 3 years ago

"Sarah Palin's record is anti-woman. Feminism is not simply about achieving the power and status typically held by men. It's about protecting and supporting the rights of women of all classes, races, cultures, and beliefs. Palin's record and beliefs do not align with this. She was chosen by John McCain specifically because he believes that American women will vote for any female candidate regardless of their qualifications. He is wrong." - women against sarah palin

and the smart part, 5 colleges in 6 years and graduating from University of Idaho in 1987 doesnt sound very ivy league to me.

like the other posters said, who are you trying to score points with in this article? you've painted women as shallow and yourself as a liar, good one

  • elementFE 3 years ago

Oddly enough I voted for my candidate Ron Paul (notice here that I am a woman who did not vote for Obama as your last paragraph infers) based on policy. Not on some misguided attempt to return to my angsty high school days. However, even if I had voted for a mainstream political candidate it certainly would not be a party with ties to Sarah Palin. She has proven herself through her policy and through her own words as an unfit candidate. Pretty, smart, classy? Every word that fell out of caribou barbies mouth proclaimed her ignorance of the world that she inhabits. Oh, and don't give me that nonsense about " well, she had to go along with what was best for the party". No, no she didn't. To be honest if she had stuck to her guns about what she really believed instead of flip flopping on just about every issue on debate I would probably have had more respect for her.

  • Will 3 years ago

Thank you for your observations Martha.
And clearly right on target!! Certainly the angry, hateful comments of the women here confirm it!

Of course the exTREMELY one-sided media roasting of Governor Palin was very effective at putting her in a negative light. The glossy, idolatry and kiss-ups shown to Obama was as sickening as was the typical liberal trashing of a clearly conservative candidate as Palin is .... and McCain certainly isn't!!

Unfortunately, liberals aren't interested in truth, their brain just can't handle it.
The truth of Obama being THE MOST far-left and socialist at such a high level of "public service" (SELF-service of course, as he & bARNEY fRANK-furter so aptly demonstrate) .... our Constitutional Republic has never been in more danger. The Enemies within seem to be far worse than the enemies Without. With all my misgivings and concerns about McCain (who I did not vote for), yet he is an honorable man for the most part. They would have been far better in the whitehouse than Barack Hussein and Michelle. God help us. PLEASE!!

  • HappyIndep 3 years ago

"It is disgusting that you denigrate women this way." so says Trina Hooks.

Were you defending Palin from the leftists who denigrated her? It was the leftists who disgraced this women with their treatment of her.
I never in my life saw such disgraceful treatment of a good American woman in my life.
She IS a threat to the leftist ideal of a WOMAN. That is why they hate her. She is EVERYTHING they claim a real woman to be EXCEPT someone who pleasures in the fact they can murder their own child.

  • HappyIndep 3 years ago

THE huge difference between Palin and someone like Hitlery Clinton is that Palin rose to the top with a man BEHIND her, Hitlery rose to the top FOLLOWING a man.
That is why the hateful women castigate Palin. They too probably FOLLOWED a man to where they are.

  • Joann 3 years ago

Keep up this ridiculous attack on Sarah Palin only because you are afraid of her. Most people infact love her...only a small percentage hate her like you do because she represents what Americans really want. McCain would not have received as much support as he did were it not for Sarah being added to the ticket. You should be ashamed of yourself!

  • hrh40 3 years ago

Thanks, Ms. Gore. I may not agree with every point, but you are brave to post this under your own name in this climate where Palin bashing is still de rigeur - fully 5 months after the election!!

And this woman does not hate Governor Palin. Nor do millions of others. See www.TeamSarah.org and www.Conservatives4Palin.com.

BTW, to those who think she's dumb and unqualified, check out this site and see what she's been doing for the last three months: www.gov.state.ak.us.

  • Dirty Harry 3 years ago

I would say you're probably right on the mark about why a great deal of women(mostly from the left)not only dislike but actually hate her. The biggest JOKE is when these HATERS lampoon her qualifications to hold the office of POTUS or vice-president. I believe Obama had an extraordinary 143-day carreer as an Illinois state senator, and did nothing to speak of while he served, never even authored one significant piece of legislature. Palin is indeed a attractive, charasmatic, intelligent, and highly capable candidate for president in 2012.

  • Joe 3 years ago

I think you are right--woman are not smart enough to see that Palin was completely unqualified and would have been a disaster for the country--therefore, any woman who did not support Palin must have done so for catty reasons. I'm glad to hear you have the same opinion of women that I do.

  • blast3r 3 years ago

Uhmmm...no... I think it is because most women hate Sarah Palin because she is taking the feminist moving backwards. How did you come up with "Ivy League"? She barely even graduated a mediocre college after numerous failures at many others.

  • Kathleen 3 years ago

You have got to be kidding! There are so many bright women out there who McCain could have chosen and unfortunately he choses someone who made other women (and men) cringe when she spoke.

  • Dirty Harry 3 years ago

Sorry Kathleen, that's one strike against Palin. Can't believe she would even accept McAmnesty's request to run as his VP. If it wasn't for Palin, McAmnesty would have gotten spanked worse than he got, what a sell-out.

  • Navvy Jiner 3 years ago

I remember asking my blonde-Sweedish wife once why she went to nursing classes in grubbies and without makeup. Her reply: "I have enough trouble just being smart."

  • HAHAHAHA 3 years ago

You have got to be kidding me. You really think that women didn't vote for Palin because they all regressed to high school pettiness? I think you don't give the women of the US enough credit. I think it's more related to the fact that she can't even form a coherent sentence, and was obviously way under qualified for the position. Also, she alienated more than half of the electorate when she called small towns the "real America". I could go on an on, but where did you get idea that she went to an "ivy leagure" university???? The level of delusion in this article is staggering.

  • pnutbutr 3 years ago

HAHAHAHA, I think the author states she was accepted into a Ivy League College, you know like Obama's grades were doctored so he could attend Harvard via affirmitive action. Being accepted doesn't mean you have to go Liberal Academia 101. Also judging by your spelling, I wouldn't really make fun of anybody's education.

  • Shira 3 years ago

I am a woman and I found Palin to be a fascinating individual, but I didn't vote for McCain because of her. She struck me as extremely unqualified, unable to answer the simplest questions, deceptive, and her family life (beneath the surface) is likely very troubled. Palin exudes dishonesty and evasiveness. I thought sticking her pregnant daughter and her daughter's lover on the convention dais showed terrible judgment and set a bad example for the young. But I did like Palin's hairstyle, makeup and clothing very much! Go to www.bayoubuzz.com to learn the real reasons why conservative women refused to squander their votes to Sarah Palin, even though it helped cost McCain the presidency. Better luck next time.

  • blast3r 3 years ago

btw, does anyone remember this? I wonder what kind of President Palin would really make.

The day of the third debate, Palin refused to go onstage with New Hampshire GOP Sen. John Sununu and Jeb Bradley, a New Hampshire congressman running for the Senate, because they were pro-choice and because Bradley opposed drilling in Alaska. The McCain campaign ordered her onstage at the next campaign stop, but she refused to acknowledge the two Republican candidates standing behind her.

    www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/09/palin-refused-to-go-on-st_n_142465.html

  • HAHAHAHA 3 years ago

Actually pnutbutr the spelling is a direct quote from the author, but I am sure since education is only a "liberal" thing, you wouldn't understand the use of quotations.

  • HAHAHAHA 3 years ago

Also pnutbutr, can you provide evidence to support your claim that "Obama's grades were doctored so he could attend Harvard via affirmitive action". Or do you just think that evidence is too "liberal". By they way, you spelt “affirmitive” incorrectly.

  • cat 3 years ago

Palin "too smart"....... what planet are you from!??

  • Constance 3 years ago

Mrs. Gore, I think your article is a childish response straight from the playground and should have been titled "You're Just Jealous of Sarah!". Believe it or not, not everyone is beset by your own obsessions and insecurities. What kind of mind perceives every stance in terms of jealousies, resentments, harboured grudges? The kind of mind that projects a bit too much, methinks.

  • Lauren 3 years ago

Why are we returning to the dark ages here? You listed the real reasons that women hate palin (anti-choice, anti-woman, ultra conservative) - and then dove into "women are catty and jealous" misogynistic crap. shame on you. stop perpetuating stereotypical ideas about women hating other women because they're pretty. that's disgusting.

  • pnutbutr 3 years ago

HAHAHA, I gotsta laugh everytime I hear some self-important, arrogant, left wingnut, with their hysterical grandiloquence antiquated rhetoric that some 1960's loser brainwashed them with. In the last 50 years name me one left wingnut program that has worked in the US, or the world for that matter. They say people don't truly see themselves as others see them, sorry to tell all you libtards you're stupidity and niavete never cease to amaze me. SEEYAA!!

  • HAHAHAHA 3 years ago

pnutbutr I don't see how asking you to provide evidence of a claim you made makes me a "wingnut", but way to resort to name calling instead of answering my question, or addressing the fact that the author can't spell. Joseph McCarthy would be proud.

  • FMD 3 years ago

I saw the interviews with Couric and Palin was incoherent, evasive and just plain stupid.

She's greedy. Look at all the money she was taking from Alaska just to spend the night at her own home. She had to pay that back. I'm not going to count wardrobe gate against her since it's not clear who was most at fault there.

She flip-flops. Anybody remember the Bridge to Nowhere?

I also can't support anyone, man or woman, who as a mayor forces rape victims to pay for their own evidence collection. When that policy became widely known the Alaska State Legislature passed a law expressly forbiding such a practice.

Palin is against abortion even in cases of rape and incest. I think that is really creepy.

Michelle Obama is smart, pretty and dresses well so why aren't women jealous of her? Because she's a nice genuine woman. Polls show that women like Michelle so your theory that women hate Palin because they are jealous of her just doesn't work.

  • Jana Peterson 3 years ago

My goodness...all this fawning and a**kissing may just get you an interview with her. My problem with Sarah Palin is not that she is pretty, it is because she is a moron. Please don't speak for me as a woman...I have never been that petty, back stabbing, jealous sort you describe. That isn't actually a description of a woman, it is a description of a bitch.

  • hua 3 years ago

Everyone's entitle to opinion. But facts should not be presented falsely:

Sarah Palin got good grades and was accepted to an Ivy League college?? Are you SURE about that?? Maybe you should do at least one second of research about this.

Sarah Palin didn't look classy enough prior to Republicans dressing her?? How much of Sarah Palin had the American public seen prior to her nomination as VP after which she only wore either her existing nice suit-skirt outfits or what republican party dressed her in?? So how could people's opinion of her have been significantly influenced by how she dressed prior to her presentation to the world by the republicans when basically all we (people outside Alaska) have seen of her is post-nomination?

  • gahanson 3 years ago

The women I know who most disliked Palin were the ones who had aborted completely normal babies because they thought children would interfer with their career, and here was a woman who had 5 children, a husbant, and a career.

  • Hua 3 years ago

gahanson: What is the purpose of you're comment? Are there some women out there who are jealous that Sarah Palin can achieve success and raise a large family? Yes. Is this, as well as jealously of her looks (which is what the original article is claiming), the reason why women as a whole don't like Sarah Palin? err...no!

If you think that it is them I think you and Martha Gore need to should stop hanging around with the worst women that you can find and get to know some more normal women.

  • Dirty Harry 3 years ago

I guess Michelle(Aunt Esther), Billary, or good ole Plastic-Face Nancy Pelosi will never have to worry about women being jealous over there beauty. Oh, forgot Barney Frank might be a tad jealous over Nancy.

I do not think Sarah is Hot. She has a chicken neck, oversize jaws, UGLY legs and no butt. She goes over the top with make up and hairspray. My first impression of her was a transexual.

She was "too smart" ??? You hsve got to be kidding. This woman went through how many community colleges to get her 'degree'? Come on she is a nitwit. All the BRAIN-DEAD LIBTARD OBAMABOTS rave on about a so-called prestigious education from an Ivy League school. Correct me if I'm wrong but did not these same LEMMINGS suggest Dubya was one of the dumbest presidents ever, and did not Dubya attend an Ivy League school. Then we have the current TELEPROMPTER LOVING TWIT Obama, and Mr. Global Warming himself Al Bore, both from illustrious Ivy League schools.

I cannot speak for all women, heck I cannot speak for my wife!

I can however speak as someone who has during his entire career worked to ensure that the most qualified person was hired or promoted regardless of gender, color, age, religion or political party.

I found Palin's selection as a hugge step backwards for ensuring that only the best qualified is hired with all other factors set aside. She was at best a gimmick, at worst a shameless attempt to use sex to sell a political ticket without regard to qualifications.

Anyone who believed Palin to be qualified or the best qualified is a fool and contending she was or is a fools mission and dishonest.

Sarah Palin was being sold because she is an attractive female and that my wife found offensive. The thought that she could actually by adverse circumstances become the President is truly a scary thought.

  • Sandra Moore 3 years ago

I for one LOVED Sarah, and believe me she is not DUMB; however, in saying that I believe that if she was allowed to speak and not told what to say, we would have seen the true Palin.
She is a woman of middle class average people and loved by them( By that I mean home and family). I can not see how the leaders of women's lib, could have a problem with her. They always said, a woman can have a career and a family. But some how they did not think that pertained to Sarah. So who are the silly sounding people now?

  • Susan B 3 years ago

Maybe women don't like her because she offers no specific policies.

  • HAHAHAHA 3 years ago

I think Palin in her own words sums up why the majority of Americans, not just women, hate her.

"But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy– Helping the — Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. Shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americas. A-

And trade we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive scary thing. But 1 in 5 jobs being created in the trade sector today. We’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation.

This bailout is a part of that."

She said it folks, no editing, no gotcha media, a simple question, and that was her unedited response.

  • McCain / Fey 2008 3 years ago

"Too pretty" and "too smart"? Tina Fey is pretty and smart; Sarah Palin is neither. Tina Fey should have been John McCain's running mate in 2008.

  • Liberty First 3 years ago

People should vote for "morals" and "virtures" first. We all need to read "The 5000 Year Leap" again and also The Declaration of Independance + The Constitution. Sarah has traditional anglo-saxon morals which is what this country was founded on. It only works for morally strong people - Thus, the population went against a person with all these values. Plus, a healthy attractive mother who seems to still love being in (GASP) a basic marriage. Yes, daughter has a new child - but, they are trying to do the best the can in a society that promotes all this negative stuff around us.

Dr. Franklin would not have helped write the Constitution for us today in 2009.
