The fact is in today's world that it is full of toxins and chemicals. Our meat, vegetables and fruits all have toxins and chemicals in them. The meats in the grocery stores not only have chemicals, the animals are also treated with antibiotics. The farmers who raise them, do not feed them a diet rich in vitamins and minerals. Their food is not one that is natural to them. Years ago, a cow would eat grass until slaughtered. Today, most cattle is fed corn based food. It changes the quality of their meat. It is nearly impossible in today's farming world to find a farmer that feeds his cattle, chicken, or pigs a diet natural to them. Even organic meats have been fed corn instead of grass, typically.
There is no need to kill any animal for food. The animals are not killed in a humane way. They suffer greatly. Chickens, for example, sometimes never see any light in the chicken coop. In fact, in chicken farms, they often select only the female chickens. The make chickens are thrown out and destroyed. They are ground, typically alive and then fed to the female chickens. This was discussed in detail in the film, Vegucated.
One of the biggest opposition most aspiring vegans will run into is how will you possibly get enough protein in your diet? This is very easy. If you eat a plant based diet, the protein formula is .36 grams of protein for each lean body mass pound you have. This is typically about 40-60 grams. This is not hard to reach with fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, and legumes.
Eating a completely vegan diet is not right for everyone. If you feel morally or feel compelled to try veganism to improve the quality of your diet, it is an adventure that one will not regret. There are so many fruits and vegetables. It is not possible to be bored with your food. According to PETA, for every person that does not consume cow's meat, it will save up to 95 cattle per year. That alone, is encouraging enough to sway others to try veganism.
