A key element of the "revealed"/hearsay religions is fear. Fear that if you don't believe the way they do you will be punished by God with burning in hell for eternity. Fear that if you don't follow their rules you will suffer in this life and in the here-after. Fear that if you question their dogma and rituals you will miss out on being rewarded both in this life and in the here-after. Fear is a huge part of the "revealed"/hearsay religions.
Deism is the complete opposite of the "revealed" religions in the way it sees and portrays The Supreme Intelligence/God. In direct contrast to the fear-based "revealed"/hearsay religions, Deism teaches us there is absolutely no need for fear of God. A major reason for this is Deists don't believe we should fear The Supreme Intelligence/God because we look at God as our Creator and Friend as Thomas Paine wrote in The Age of Reason, The Complete Edition. Since Deists look at God as their Creator and Friend they can't accept the dark and evil picture of God found in the Bible which paints a picture of a jealous (Exodus 34:14 actually claims God's name is "Jealous"), dogmatic, egotistical and violent king who we must cower in fear of.
Being afraid of God is not limited to the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. Jesus taught people to fear God according to Matthew 10:28. This verse says that Jesus said we need to fear God because God can kill not only our body, but both our body and our soul in hell. This disgusting and ungodly teaching along with an objective knowledge of Christianity's violent history can help us understand the truth to Thomas Paine's observation that "belief in a cruel god makes a cruel man."
The Bible is very ambiguous and self-contradictory and therefore is meaningless and harmful. One important example of this relates to fearing God. With the above teaching from Jesus to fear God in mind, we see a good teaching about fear and love at 1 John 4:18 which says, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear." This totally destroys what Jesus taught at Matthew 10:28. Thank God reason based Deism is completely free of these damaging contradictions!
One reason Deism is free of fear is because there are no clergy in Deism. The fear based writings found in the "revealed" religions all lack the authorship of God because they were all written by ancient, power-hungry and largely ignorant men. They put fear in people so they could control them and grow rich and powerful doing so. They not only fabricated a violent and scary god, they also made up fearful creatures like Satan and demons and then convinced their fellow human beings that they could protect them from these imaginary creatures.
"Revealed"/hearsay religions are quite an ungodly racket! No wonder they fight Deism and the innate God-given reason Deism is based upon with all they have.
