The Tea Party’s growing unpopularity and demise was long overdue. The most recent gallup poll shows their popularity at an all-time low of 21%. It would appear that America has had enough of the political obstructionism, Obama-hate, and with a movement that made no sense from the get-go. The simple truth is the Tea Party "patriots" are too stupid - yes, I said it - to see what’s going on around them.
Indeed, these so called "patriots" that scream Obama wants socialism and wealth distribution fail to recognize that it's the 1 percenters and their political supporters that have prospered immensely at THEIR expense. They have no problem counting President Obama's vacation days but fail to see that it's THEIR party that wants to pull their social safety nets right from under them. They are more concerned with Jay Z going to the White House then with oil subsidies and tax cuts for the uber rich that THEY end up paying for. They are more concerned with not being able to buy an AK47 then they are the rights of the working man, or their women being treated like objects and less like human beings.
They stay within an echo chamber of billionaire subsidized right-wing propaganda from which they get their anti-Obama talking points. They listen to right-wing radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh, a 1 per-center, and only trust Fox News, whose viewers are less informed than people who don’t follow any news at all. They are so brainwashed and distracted by patriotic country music songs that they can't see that the oil barons and CEOs are subsidized and protected by the state at THEIR expense. Here's a newsflash Tea Partiers - the rich don't care about you. Aligning yourselves with rich right-wing talk hosts or a party that protects and supports them is self-defeating because you won't receive any empathy. The richer and more powerful the person or group, the less empathy he or she is likely to have for people who are lower in status. It's human nature and it's playing out today. As the wealth gap has widened in America, so has the empathy gap. As a result, we have the cold-hearted politics of cutting food stamps, after-school programs, and denying health care for the poor.
As for Tea Party racism, it was outed with the emergence of the birthers. Not all, but for many of these people their hate for President Obama has always been about his race and not about policy. Whether it's the hateful signs at Tea Party rallies, racist emails, death threats – many of these fools yearn for a return to the good old Jim Crow days when "them people" knew their place. But they are fighting a losing battle. When you consider that the country is changing demographically towards increasing proportions of Latinos, blacks, Asians, and the fact that independent women and many college graduates have no connection to GOP conservatives policies, the writing is on the wall. Indeed, the election of a black man to the White House has thrown the Tea Party into such a tail spin, they are crashing and burning.
