Why so many celebs are flocking to Ibiza

If you thought it was a coincidence that Orlando Bloom and Justin Bieber just happened to bump into each other at a club in Ibiza, Spain earlier this week, think again. It turns out the island off the coast of Valencia is a serious celeb hotspot – and it has been for decades.

On Friday, ET Online posted a video from the knowledgeable Lance Bass, who had the inside scoop on why stars like Bieber, Paris Hilton, Kanye West, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lindsay Lohan, Zac Efron, Michelle Rodriguez, and Kim Kardashian and her clan, are spending their summer vacations in Ibiza.

"Celebs get paid when they go to these clubs,” Bass explained. “Some of these celebs probably get about $50,000 just to appear at a club and drink their liquor.” In exchange, they’re expected to tout the island on social media. And tout it they do.

The Herald Sun compiled a series of Instagram pictures from celebs who have been spotted in Ibiza in recent months, including a clubbing Will Smith, a sunning Kate Hudson, and a partying Naomi Campbell (with Diddy, no less!). And the pics are proof that in addition to a really hot nightlife (like Privilege nightclub, a 10,000 person venue that is billed as the largest in the world), Ibiza boasts some really cool beaches and scenery.

But it’s not like today’s celebs suddenly discovered some hidden gem in Ibiza. According to the real estate website A Place in the Sun, old school Hollywood glam stars like Errol Flynn, Elizabeth Taylor and Ursula Andress were regular visitors to this European destination back in the 1950s. More recently, everyone from supermodel Elle McPherson to Mick Jagger have owned homes on the island.

Modern day social media has definitely put Ibiza in the spotlight, though, so now we finally know what we’ve been missing. So if you want the chance to see a yacht lounging Leo DiCaprio or a jet-skiing Justin Bieber, you’d better book your tickets to this celeb party capital now.
