I reported earlier today about how the White House immigration plan, released over the weekend, would grant amnesty to 11 million illegal immigrants. I have absolutely no doubt that President Obama would love to get them all into the system giving them citizenship and the right to vote as soon as possible. 11 million new votes could help the Democrats dominate politics nationally for generations to come. If that is not reason enough to block this latest amnesty proposal, the economic issues involved with it are even more compelling reason to make sure this plan never becomes law.
This is basic economics, and remember the most important economic issue affecting millinos of citizens now is the high unemployment and the lack of job creation in this current economy. Granting amnesty to these 11 million illegal immigrants is exactly like importing another 11 million unemployed workers. It's that simple we would be adding 11 million more to the rolls of those who are unemployed by granting them amnesty that leads to citizenship. And remember, these are the illegal immigrants, who came here illegally and are breaking the law. The hundreds of thousands of legal immigrants we allow to become citizens are already adding to the rolls of the unemployed (or taking jobs Americans would get, still adding to the rolls of the unemployed that way) and helping to increase our unemployment rates.
So why would we want to add another 11 million to the roles of the unemployed? It's what I like to call cheap votes and cheap labor. The Democrats like the former and the Republicans like the latter. But, in the interests of American citizens and workers, we should be doing just the opposite. This amnesty policy, for cheap votes for Democrats and cheap labor for the big business friends of the Republicans, ends up being a bipartisan policy very detrimental to most Americans.
For the Democrats to put the interests of their party to get cheap votes and basically stuff the ballot boxes for generations to come with 11 million illegal immigrant voters over the interests of the country shows just how corrupt the Democratic Party has become. For the Republicans to put the interests of cheap labor for big business over the interests of the country shows also just how corrupt the Republican Party has become as well.
The right to vote should be reserved for those who are actually citizens. And immigrants who want to be part of our society should demonstrate they really want to become citizens and qualify by passing background checks and a test showing basic understanding of our constitutional system of government that should be known by all citizens.
When the government allows amnesty and imports more unemployed in the form of illegal immigrants, it expands the labor supply, which inevitably (this is basic economics) pushes overall wages, and the value of labor, down. That means average income declines and the middle class shrinks. If we want a growing and thriving middle class, we need government policy that bolsters rather than forcing down, the value of labor. One way to do this is to limit legal immigration and stop illegal immigration by securing the borders so that the ratio of jobs to available labor changes so businesses compete for workers rather than so many workers fighting for so few jobs. This would increase the income of the middle class and rapidly lower unemployment to record low levels. Higher incomes and lower unemployment is good for the country and it's only possible if we limit immigration and immediately stop illegal immigration.
The White House plan does just the opposite. Adding more to the rolls of the unemployed is never a good policy, and in the middle of this jobless so-called recovery from the Great Recession, it's the worst possible policy imaginable.
