Why the enemy hates the Holy Spirit (God)

Under our current dispensation of grace, Christians are commanded to go into all the world to preach the word of God by giving the Gospel. It matters not if that means a foreign country, local community, your own family, where those are incarcerated, work environment, entertainment venue, education system, where you dine, or even where you receive your spiritual training. There is no location where following the Great Commission should not be done.

The Holy Spirit is the last of the final manifestations of God. God the Father in the Old Testament began laying the framework of God’s plan for the redemption of man by showing up as God the Father, a strict disciplinarian, whose righteous indignation could be kindled as a consequence to the ongoing iniquity from being in rebellion to God’s authority.

Iniquity, a gross injustice and violation of right or duty, would bring eventual punishment from God but only after long periods of constant rebellion. The prophets would be appointed by God in an attempt to bring repentance to the evil of the world and even His chosen people. A classic example of God’s patience was demonstrated with the Amorites whom God eventually judged well after 400 years of informing Abraham. God’s nature of mercy and grace was demonstrated.

Next, God the Son came on the scene through Jesus Christ that the apostle John eloquently and effectively revealed as being “God in the flesh” in the first chapter of the gospel of John. God would set aside His righteous indignation and show a softer side of His nature through the grace, love, mercy, and forgiveness of Jesus.

Jesus, being full of the Holy Spirit, conveyed God’s softer side through Himself who declared, “I will have mercy and not sacrifice” in Matthew 12:7. The gift of salvation through Christ being the “Door of the Sheep” provided the one way to close the doors of hell and open the doors of heaven.

Before Jesus’ final ascension to heaven, He gave His disciples strict instructions to “tarry in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high”. Christ taught about the Comforter and Helper coming that would be the main vehicle for convicting the world of sin, and the Holy Spirit was it. The pouring out of the Spirit in Acts validates the promises Jesus made in the gospel of John. One of Jesus’ most compelling vows is “I will never leave you nor forsake you” in Hebrews 13:5. The Holy Spirit being sent by God is confirmation of the overall declarations of Jesus. It is the pure presence of God as the Spirit of truth.

Jesus said in John 14:26, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My Name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” There are tremendously important stipulations by Christ on who the Holy Spirit is and what the Holy Spirit will do.

This is why the enemy hates the Holy Spirit with such a passion. It is the final and absolute proof of God’s authority through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. “Greater is He that is me than he that is in the world” in 1 John 4:4 is a defining statement to God’s power and authority.

The 9 gifts of the Spirit outlined in 1 Corinthians 12 and the fruits of the Spirit detailed in Galatians 5 are the evidence that the Holy Spirit is in operation. The Spirit draws people to God, the Spirit convicts all listeners to the word of God regarding sin, and the Spirit does the cleansing, building, and restoration of the sinner. Nine is the spiritual number of restoration, renewal, and regeneration.

The enemy hates the Spirit because God’s light and truth through the Spirit destroys the strongholds of darkness and proves the enemy’s power to be vastly inferior in authority. The world does not have the Spirit of truth so the enemy has been active in the church convincing believers that the Holy Spirit no longer operates today and died out with the apostles. Another heresy is incorporated where the false teaching about God’s Spirit is merely God’s active power with no personality or thinking ability.

The forces of darkness have been working overtime to sow seeds of doubt, skepticism, and unbelief into the final manifestation of God the Holy Spirit. The importance of the Spirit cannot be adequately measured. Jesus said that blasphemy against God and even blasphemy against Christ can be forgiven, however blasphemy against the Holy Spirit would not be forgiven.

This distinctive means there is something different and inherently special about the final display of God’s nature through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit was there at the beginning according to Genesis performing the great feats of Creation. After the fall, the spark that connected man to God was extinguished due to sin and man’s relationship to God was forever impacted. The Spirit is the closest thing we have since that initial communication was severed.

However the promise in the Bible will be fulfilled when it states, “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ”, Philippians 1:6.

Nice…..another promise fulfilled!!
