Football fans from Motown are a different breed. The passion for Detroit and Michigan sports runs deep here, and for proof of this all you have to do is look at the Detroit Lions. The Lions have had one of the worst records in football over the past 20 years, yet the fans still come to see them.
They love their football in Detroit, and there is no further proof that is needed as the announcement today that the Lions have sold over 11,000 more season tickets this year than last, and our in second place in the NFL with the most season tickets sold for the upcoming 2011 NFL season.
WOW! Just think what will happen if they start winning!
That may not be far off. The Lions odds of 30/1 are down from opening at 75/1 just four months ago. For those of you who don't know gaming terms, that is a HUGE drop, meaning people are betting on....gulp....the Lions to go to the Super bowl!
NFC title or not, this years team has to produce. No more will the excuses of, "next season," or "we almost had them" will work in this city.
The talent on this team is starting to build, and coach Jim Schwartz knows that the expectaions for the 2011 season are high, but really, Super bowl high?
That will be a tough order to fill, especially playing in the same division as the Super bowl champion Green Bay Packers, but this Lions team does seem different, Confident, yet no where near cocky.
Ndamukong Suh leads a Lions defense that was relentless last season, and should only get better this year with the additions of linebacker Stephen Tullochat and corner back Eric Wright they may have one of the best defenses in the NFL!
30/1 odds look nice people! It's always good to wager a little to win a lot!
