Why The 2014 BET Awards Show Was a HUGE Flop...

If you woke up this morning with an influx of Jay Z and Beyonce MEMES on your Social Media pages, you may have the 2014 BET Awards to thank for that. In this year's opening credit powerfully read by Hip Hop royalty and Announcer, MC Lyte, you were told that artistes such as Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Lil' Wayne, Iggy Azalea, T.I and the big two...Jay Z & Beyonce would be performing. The Staples Center Auditorium in Los Angeles was the backdrop for the 2014 BET Awards and when the Hip Hop power couple's name was called by the emcee, the venue erupted in loud cheers and applause and my good sense tells me that many living rooms were also in accordance. What was slated to be a three and a half hour show was four hours in length with a few good performances from consistent key players like Chris Brown, Usher, Yolanda Adams, Lionel Richie, a lifetime Achievement honoree and R & B crooner John Legend. A few black hollywood A-Listers including Kerry Washington, Gabrielle Union and Kevin Hart presented statues and veteran Comedian Chris Rock returned to main stage as this year's host.

Minus a few ill-prepared speeches, blurred lines' and intentional wardrobe malfunctions or style as some sees it, nothing made the 2014 BET Awards the worst Award show of 2014 than the big let down that was the so-called closing performance of Jay Z and Beyonce. If viewers wanted to see Beyonce gyrate her post-baby figure on a riding bull or dance prop and Jigger' (Jay Z) spit' on a mike dripping in sweat, they could have simply Youtubed' their last 'On The Run performance' the night before. In fact, some videos on Social Media had far better quality that the crap that was shown to millions of viewers. If BET thought that they ended the Awards Show with a bang, they are probably right! A bang that will he heard around the world for many days to come and a bang that should leave Debra Lee counting her days at the network. Black Television deserves better than this.
