State Representative Lon Burnam, Democrat from Fort Worth must be planning a future run for Washington D.C. Already, he’s promoting the national spin of ‘fare share,’ but around the halls of the capitol in Austin and one would have to seriously consider, is this best Fort Worth have to offer?
Burnam has introduced a bill that would require those making more than $250,000 a year to pay more, but in the form of a state income tax, which is a violation of the Texas Constitution and a very long, if not. a mission impossible. Why waste time with this nonsense when there is plenty of far more important issues facing lawmakers this year(ABC13.com).
"I'm trying to give our wealthiest Texans the opportunity to start paying their fair share... and stop being freeloaders," said Representative Lon Burnam. "It's really time for them to start paying closer to their fair share."
Burnam represents State District 90, which is downtown Forth Worth and surrounding communities. No doubt, those living in the downtown area of the city are paying their fair shares and then some. It’s ironic Democrats, who represent those who pay nothing, demand those who do pay something, to pay more.
"Our tax system in Texas is one of the most unfair tax structures of any state in the country. I'm trying to level the playing field," Rep. Burnam said.
That’s not an original statement. The President and Vice President has used it, some four years ago and are still using it today.
What’s unusual about this bill to rob from the rich and give to the poor, Burnam’s been around long enough to know, Article 8 of the state’s constitution prohibits ‘the ability of the Legislature and local governments to impose taxes.
It’s unconstitutional to tax one group and not the other. In other words, Burnam can’t tax the wealthy in Texas to shore up his voter base in Fourth Worth, but that talk got the president re-elected and if you’re a Texas Democrat, it’s worth a try here at home.
It would take two thirds of Austin to approve this bill and then a referendum must be presented to the people, which at best is a very long shot, as well as, a mission impossible.
