Why should not Satanists be able to put up a monument at state capitol?

. The Oklahoma State Capitol building has a 10 Commandments monument in front of it. This is even though there is no governmental interest to tell anyone they may have no other gods or to honor a Sabbath.

In fact, if the government did try to enforce such prohibitions it would be a direct violation of the Free Exercise and Establishment clauses of the First Amendment. Prohibitions on murder, theft, are universal and long predate the formation of the these commandments.

But this monument exists because Christianity is wildly popular in Oklahoma. So, if the government is allowing religious monuments, it must support the right of all religious groups to do just that, including Satanists. Yes, a Satanist group wants to put up their own monument in front of the state capitol, and now so does a Hindu group.

As a humanist and an atheist, I don't believe in any religion's beliefs being literally true, though some might contain wisdom within them. But all groups deserve full equality within the law. I hope that the Oklahoma state government can fully support those rights. Either support those rights or leave the question of religion up to the marketplace of ideas.

Indeed, Republican state lawmakers believed that a Satanist monument would be offensive because Oklahoma is a "faith based state." So faith based means only one religion enjoys full equality? Another state legislator that a Satanist monument is not something that the people of Oklahoma would support. Yeah, so what, the Bill of Rights protects everyone, included despised group such as Satanists.

Lastly one state legislator had the neve to said that this Satanist monument would be put up for "religious purposes" but that the 10 Commandments monument was set up for "historical purposes".

Yes, because the 10 Commandments is mentioned in the Bill of Rights or the Constitution, oh wait, it's not. The purpose of 10 Commandment monuments are to install Christianity in the minds of non-believers. Any other reason is just an excuse. Once again the Christian right-wing demands governmental favoritism, and they scream persecution if they don't get their way.
