Why parenting seems out of control

Dr. Shefali Tsabary is the author of the three-time award winning The Conscious Parent. Now she has a new book that was released on Tuesday, January 14th. The book is entitled Out of Control: Why Disciplining Your Child Doesn't Work...and What Will.

The book is Tsabary’s groundbreaking approach to parenting. The approach completely removes discipline from the occasion.

Sound ominous? No, don’t worry, her hands-off, laisez-faire, permissive approach to parenting is just the opposite! Dr. Tsabary’s approach is built on a foundation of conscious awareness of our children’s unique individuality, needs, aptitudes, personality and nature – as well as an awareness of ourselves as parents, together with our hidden emotional agendas. Her method is completely different in that it fosters not correction but connection!

Tsabary has discovered that when children express themselves negatively, their actions stem from a failure to connect with other people (especially their parents) in a meaningful way. She further determined that when an effective, authentic connection is established that discipline is simply no longer required. Instead, the child develops self-discipline and a desire to live responsibly.

This new paradigm for parenting is quite practical, although it is also controversial. As she states, however, “Every parent wants the golden key to raising well-behaved, academically gifted, successful, happy children. Embedded in our collective psyche is the notion that discipline is the cornerstone to achieving these goals. This book lambasts this notion, offering a never-before-published perspective on why discipline is flawed.

Whether parents want to embrace this notion or not, they have to admit to the dysfunction that exists in parenting today. Dr. Tsabary encourages parents to dispel of the fear-based ideologies, replace them with her approach and witness just how you together with your children as opposed to alienating them.

What does it hurt to try? Perhaps you will discover that this new method is the miracle approach you have been seeking.
